Does it make sense to buy a full HD or even an HD ready camcorder as against an SD camcorder? - hd sd camcorder

Not only from the point of view, if you have an HDTV or not, but if you videos with high-definition video camera to play recorded on our laptops (on my laptop, Dell Latitude 620, I can not play high-definition videos from Youtube / Dailymotion fullscreen).
Can I record movies on HD DVD this normal, or do we need HD / Blu-Ray discs? I think we can, but without loss of quality.
